Pantokrator - Marching Out Of Babylon (2021)

01. Day Of Wrath 02. Wedlock 03. Crossroads 04. Marching Out Of Babylon 05. The Last Cheek 06. Hidden Deep 07. We The People 08. Phoenix Rising The fourth full length by Swedish progressive death metal band, Pantokrator.  First off, the album is HEAVY....like HEAVY, HEAVY.  There's a "blackened death metal" feel to the vocals, with appropriate distortion. There's even some clean vocals, and personally I like it when extreme metal bands include actual singing. Track two features a guitar solo from CJ Grimmark of Narnia. Track three features a guitar solo from Jani Stefanović. The title track starts out with a "middle eastern folk music" sound and runs into a slow melodic death/doom sound, reminiscent of bands like My Dying Bride and The Foreshadowing. The final track features guest vocals from Mund of the black metal band, Skald In Veum. The song is wonderfully blackened, which I saw coming, but I still wasn't prepared for how awesome it was. I give the a...

Apostisy - The Paradox Of Existence (2021)

01. Pegasus 02. The Paradox Of Existence (feat. Björn Strid) 03. As The Light Dies 04. Becoming Nothingness 05. The Dead Keep Us Here 06. Aeons Of The Unseen 07. The Graves We Dig 08. As Fire Fills The Sky 09. When Tomorrow Never Comes [First and foremost, if any of the info here is inaccurate, please let me know and I'll correct it.] Clocking in at over an hour in length, the album features a classic melodic death metal sound, along with some post rock/metal and melodic power metal vibes. It also features orchestral backings and wonderfully relaxing piano work. Overall is a really good album. Lyrically the album focuses on existential and philosophical themes. Musically it reminds me of old school melodeath, similar to early Amorphis, Dark Tranquility, Soilwork, and Mercenary. There's a very nice flow to it. The melodic tones are relaxing, but it's death metal, so it has that "dark nasty brutal" factor. Track one is an instrumental orchestral keyboard piece that ...

Fire From Heaven - The Evil Wolf Chronicles (2020)

Rampage The Transformation Twilight Of The Evil Wolf 01. A Forewarning 02. The Transformation 03. Rampage 04. Twilight Of The Evil Wolf 05. Interlude Of Oppression 06. Azroth The Oppressor 07. Conquest (feat. Logan Thompson) 08. Alion's Agony 09. Epilogue Of The Evil Wolf "Twilight Of The Evil Wolf" is a dark fantasy tale of a guy named Alion, who shares an existence (?) with two wolves (one good and one evil). I tend to like fantasy concept albums. My favorite deathcore album is "Erek & Ivor" by Vanguard, which is a viking fantasy concept album.  This album is chock full of heavy riffs, crushing breakdowns, along with symphonic backings. Track seven features guest vocals from Logan Thompson of Symphony Of Heaven. I would describe it as a metalcore/deathcore album, influenced by melodic death metal. The album came out on the last day of 2020. CDs can be purchased here !
