Symphony Of Heaven - The Ascension Of Extinction EP (2020)
03. DeathMarch
The sixth overall release by death/black metal band, Symphony Of Heaven, which started as a solo project by a guy who goes by the moniker "Pathos", and turned into a full fledged band (like Theocracy and Abated Mass Of Flesh did).
Track 1 features a spoken word vocal spot from Atmos.
Track 2 features guest vocals from Karl Walfridsson of Pantokrator, and Mund of Skald In Veum.
The EP has a nice "dark metal" feel to it, much like a Behemoth album, but then not so much. Stylistically there's definitely more diversity on this EP.
The most prominent vocal technique on this EP has to be the the "death yell" or "guttural" style vocal, or whatever that is.
There's the regular blackened death metal esque mid range style growl, some highs, and then there's this thing that sounds like the black metal version of hardcore punk style vocals.
Musically it's very smooth. There are some melodic parts, some blast beats, some undeniably "black metal" sounding opening riffs.
Track 1 reminds me of "blackened thrash metal" at some points.
Track 2 leans in that "black metal white noise" direction.
Track 3 is very, very smooth, keyboards add a very nice ambience to the song (the blast beats were a nice touch as well).
Track four plays similar to a Renascent song; melodic, blackened, death.
